Social Security Number (SSN)

To qualify for a Social Security Card, you would need to have at least ONE of the following:

  • An offer letter from an on-campus job
  • An I-20 with approved CPT authorization
  • Employment Authorization Document (EAD) along with your I-20 with approved OPT authorization

Requirements for applying Social Security Number (SSN)

  1. Social security authorization letter from the ISGSS office
    1. Request your ISGSS SSN authorization letter by submitting .

    2. NOTE: This only applies to students with on-campus job offers. This does not apply to students with approved CPT/OPT employment.
  2. Most recent i-20
  3. Most recent i-94
  4. Hire/ offer letter
  5. Proof of address
    1. If living on campus, ask one from the Office of Residence Life
    2. If living off campus, acceptable documents would be the following:
      1. Lease agreement, utility bill, bank statement, paycheck
  6. School ID / State ID
  7. Passport and visa

The SSA Office periodically updates its requirements, and it is the responsibility of each student to ensure that all necessary documentation is prepared in advance of their scheduled appointment. Steps in applying for your SSN
